PHOTOGRAPHY

Welcome to the blog, where I share tips, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and beautiful stories from working with families to create lasting heirlooms.

Samantha and Jeremy introduced their second little boy on Monday! Samantha is a huge memory collector in the form of photos, so capturing the birth story photography of this little boy was so special, knowing that these birth story photos will be reviewed and lived through again and again. This delivery photography session is the first I have ever shot, and I will remember it forever! It was so loving and intimate. Honestly, even talking to Samantha afterwards about the environment the people around her made was just so wholesome and special, I started tearing up!

Birth Story Begins: Arriving at the Hospital

Six-photo collage showing mom and dad’s emotional connection during labor—breathing through contractions, gripping bedframe, and sharing supportive glances.

From there, Big Brother kissed Mama goodbye and gave in to his nap time on the way home. Once available, the epidural kicked in, and Samantha was able to take a nap. When she woke up, she looked refreshed and ready for what came next!

The Delivery

Dr. Shirley had come after a day of surgeries specifically to deliver this baby! Samantha had last-minute asked her mother if she would like to be in the room during delivery, and Grandma responded with, “Well, you know my answer.” So the family gathered around Samantha as Dr. Shirley organized her equipment. She slowly began to push, but after only a few minutes, the baby was making quick progress! A few of the baby’s nurses gathered around to witness this moment.

Then, things changed. Dr. Shirley mentioned to Samantha that progression had slowed, and if it didn’t pick up, they may need to step in and do a C-section. At these words, Jeremy lost his color and had to step away to avoid fainting. Grandma stepped in to hold Samantha’s leg, beaming with pride as she helped her daughter through each push. These were moments she would hold onto forever.

The Final Push

Soon, Jeremy returned and began supporting Samantha by holding her oxygen mask. As the baby started to crown, Dr. Shirley encouraged Samantha to feel her baby’s hair. With one more big push, Dr. Shirley guided the baby boy into the world—straight into Jeremy’s hands! He immediately placed the baby onto Samantha’s tummy, where they worked on warming him up. After just a brief moment, the little one let out his first cry. Samantha’s face softened into a grin as she grasped her baby’s tiny hand.

Four-photo collage showing baby being born into dad’s hands, placed on mom’s chest as she smiles and holds baby’s hand, mom joyfully feeling baby’s heartbeat through the umbilical cord, and grandma watching as dad cuts the cord.

Before cutting the cord, Dr. Shirley invited each person to feel the baby’s heartbeat through it. Each person took a turn, exclaiming in excitement and wonder! Then, Jeremy cut the cord, and the baby was moved to his own table to be suctioned and measured. Dad stayed by his side the whole time while Samantha, across the room, looked on in pure joy as she got situated herself.

Meeting the Family

Soon, the baby was diapered, swaddled, and topped off with a tiny striped hat before being returned to Mama.

Four-photo collage of newborn bonding—baby crying on mom’s chest as parents kiss, baby held close by mom, baby opening eyes, and close-up of baby gripping mom’s thumb.

After the first feeding, it was time for those in the waiting room to come and meet him! Grandma was the first to hold him, opening her arms wide and taking in his tiny features. Samantha’s brother arrived, bringing up pizza for a well-earned meal! Grandma and Uncle admired baby together while Samantha gained strength from much-needed ham pizza.

Five-photo collage capturing family love—grandma holding newborn with dad smiling, baby’s hand in mouth, baby sticking out tongue, mom comforting crying baby, and baby holding dad’s finger.

Choosing The Perfect Name

It was late in the evening and Baby Boy remained unnamed. Samantha and Jeremy were torn between a few names, asking their closest family members for their thoughts. But it wasn’t until the next morning that they made their final decision. The next morning, Big Brother arrived to meet his new best friend, and Samantha and Jeremy finally settled on the perfect name. You can see their sweet first moments together in [Baby’s First 48 Hours] (Coming out April 14th).

What Is Birth Photography?

Birth photography captures the powerful, intimate moments of labor and delivery, preserving the raw emotions, connections, and milestones that make up the unique birth story. It’s not just about the arrival of a new baby, but about telling the story of a family’s journey through one of the most life-changing experiences.

Why Birth Photography Matters

The experience of labor often feels like a blur in the end. As much as we want to hold on to every moment, our bodies are naturally designed to forget much of it. Birth photography captures the fleeting moments that slip away—tender touches, the first glimpse of a newborn, and the overwhelming love that fills the room. It preserves many “firsts,” allowing families to look back on them for years to come, keeping the essence of the day alive forever.
