This family reminded me how tender the older years of motherhood can be. Their mother didn’t have many expectations, she simply wanted something new to place on their family wall, which hadn’t been updated in more than 15 years. Sometimes the simplest wish holds the most meaning.

As a motherhood photographer traveling across the Midwest, I love capturing these later seasons of life. Love deepens and family stories unfold in new ways during this stage.

These grown daughters share the kind of laughter that bubbles up from years of inside jokes and shared memories. Their father, quickly found his true calling as a model and added personality and fun to the evening. The whole family was kind, welcoming, and constantly laughing with each other. Only a long history of love can create moments like these.

We started along a quiet trail near the woods at Katy Park as they provided the perfect amount of shade we needed before sunset. After time in the open air, the sun began to set and we moved back to their home for a cozy, casual look. The soft, golden light highlighted their connection and delivered beautiful portraits. There, we included one set of grandparents and the beloved family dog, Kobe who is treated much like a grandbaby at this point.

During the session, I noticed the tender connection between the mother and her own mother. It reflected the family’s legacy in such a quiet, beautiful way. The grandfather also requested a special image with his granddaughters. Capturing that moment reminded everyone how love flows across generations.

This multi-generational family session in Chanute felt relaxed and effortless. Smiles, easy conversation, and warmth filled every moment.
I think these years hold their own nostalgia, and that documenting them matters just as much as the early ones. At this stage, it’s less about guiding little hands and more about capturing how a family falls back in together like a puzzle. They do this through the shared history, the comfort, and the love that has only deepened over time.

Capturing multi-generational moments like these creates timeless images that become heirlooms for families. It’s a way to preserve your story, honor your legacy, and show future generations the love that binds your family together.
Traveling across the Midwest to photograph families allows me to capture these meaningful moments wherever your story unfolds.
Whether your children are little or grown, you deserve to preserve this season of your family’s story.
If it’s been years since you’ve updated your walls, or if you’ve never had portraits taken during this stage, I would love to help you create something meaningful that you can reflect on any and everyday!
