Welcome to the blog, where I share tips, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and beautiful stories from working with families to create lasting heirlooms.

This cozy, detail-rich posed newborn session took place in Amy and Wil’s rural Missouri home, using the back of a treasured quilt as the perfect backdrop for baby Clyde.

A Peaceful Start to the Session

Collage of two images showing a newborn baby on his tummy on a white background. In both close-up shots, his tiny hand rests beneath his chin; in the second image, his mouth is slightly open.
Collage of two close-up images: the first shows the baby's soft back rolls, and the second captures the delicate curve of his ear.

Personal Touches That Told Their Story

Amy and Wil are proud country folks, and they had the cutest little touches ready to include in Clyde’s photos. We wrapped him in a cow print swaddle (honestly, too cute!), added a buffalo stuffed animal from their honeymoon, and even a miniature “Milk” truck. Each little piece added a personal touch to Clyde’s story.

Collage of two black and white images: one shows a newborn swaddled in cow print with a stuffed buffalo resting on his belly; the second features the same swaddle but focuses on a toy “MILK” truck in the foreground, with the baby blurred in the background.

One of the most meaningful items was their wedding Bible. Gifted by their pastor and specially embossed for their wedding day. We tried posing Clyde with it, but he quickly let us know it wasn’t the coziest place to nap! Wil stepped in to comfort him, and Clyde immediately grabbed hold of his overalls and had a tight grip!

Collage of three images: first, a newborn tightly grips his father’s denim overalls; second, the top of the baby’s head rests gently on a family wedding Bible; third, a wider view shows the baby’s hand still holding the overalls, with the father smiling down and the mother smiling in the background.

Finishing with a Sweet Feeding & His First Fishing Pole

Thankfully, a warm bottle was ready, and Amy gave him a peaceful feeding break. After a quick diaper change, we finished the session by incorporating Clyde’s brand-new fishing pole. Which is longer than he is right now! He held tight to the little fish at the end and wasn’t letting go anytime soon.

Collage of two images: first, an overhead view of the newborn lying beside a fishing pole, wearing a yellow and blue striped onesie; second, a close-up of the baby's tiny hand clutching the fish from the pole.

A Final Thought

This session is part of a full series I’m photographing for Clyde’s first year. From Amy’s maternity session and his first 48 hours in the hospital to future milestone sessions—we’re using his brand new fishing pole as a fun growth chart to tell his story over time.
