I’m on call beginning around 37 weeks until your baby arrives. During that time I keep my schedule flexible so I’m ready whenever labor begins.

Once labor is established, you or your support person will contact me. I’ll stay in communication with your family, travel to your birth location at the appropriate time, and remain through active labor, delivery, and the first moments afterward according to your collection.

Most of the time, you’ll probably forget I’m even there.

My goal isn’t to direct your birth or become another person in the room. I quietly move around your care team, document what’s happening, and let you stay focused on bringing your baby into the world.

I also recommend letting your provider know ahead of time that you’ve hired a birth photographer. Most Kansas City hospitals and birth centers are familiar with birth photography, although policies, especially for cesarean births, can vary.

Can My Partner Put Their Phone Away?
