Nine months old and endlessly curious, Clyde explored Amy’s classroom greenhouse with unstoppable energy and a little mischief. The air was damp, sweet with the smell of flowers, and filled with the gentle hum of the heaters. Every corner was alive with color and texture, making it the perfect spot for a 9-month session to capture his personality and the small, fleeting moments of babyhood.
Clyde loved tasting everything in sight. Mainly rocks and dirt, but nothing was off-limits. Amy laughed as she explained, “He has always been a taster, constantly exploring with his mouth.” She gently side-swiped his cheeks whenever he grabbed a handful of dirt. At one point, she called for backup from Wil. With a fatherly approach, he quickly cleared Clyde’s mouth. But before anyone noticed, Clyde had sneaked another handful. Everyone laughed at how determined he was.

It was clear that motherhood and fatherhood looked different in action, with Amy’s gentle side-sweeping and Wil’s more direct approach somewhere between no-nonsense and vibe of “rub some dirt on it and you will be fine.”
The day started overcast, with a light sprinkle here and there. Halfway through the session, the sun peeked through the greenhouse glass, casting a soft glow over the greenery and flowers. Shooting in the greenhouse was such a joy. The textures, the natural light, and the earthy tones all added a soft, timeless beauty to the photos. Being there also reminded me of my own days working at In The Garden in Pittsburg, Kansas before I made photography my full-time gig. The floral smells and sunshine on my face made me smile. This greenhouse was perfect for the session, reflecting Amy’s farmer roots and the care she gives to all of her “kids” as an FFA teacher.
At six months, Clyde was just learning to army crawl. At nine months, no one could keep him from going wherever he wanted, usually straight for the rocks. We brought out some of his favorite toys to try to keep him on the concrete, but he immediately darted for a yellow cement truck. As it lit up and made noise, he laughed and pushed it toward the rocks with pure delight.

These playful, messy moments are exactly what families want to remember and why heirloom albums are so special. Every tiny laugh, curious glance, and messy exploration becomes part of a story you can hold in your hands.
Watching Amy and Wil chase Clyde and remove pebbles was full of laughter and teamwork. Nine months is busy, messy, and full of constant redirection, but these parents chose joy in the chaos.

The small moments of laughter between the mess are the ones that families will treasure for years to come.
Someday, they will not be prying rocks from his mouth. But they will want to remember the boy who tried to taste the whole world. If you want to preserve your baby’s milestones and the messy, magical moments of everyday life, let’s create images you will love and heirloom albums you will cherish. Reach out today to book a session and capture your little one exactly as they are right now.
