I traveled to Rural Missouri to photograph Clyde at six months, right in the middle of the holiday season. He’s getting so big already and has a full head of hair. Since it was December, we added some Christmas touches to the session. He tried on the cutest pajamas and explored the living room decorated with a tree and presents. Almost immediately, he discovered the joy of pulling out all the crinkly stuffing paper. He loved the ornaments too, especially the candy canes, since they were one of the few he could actually chew on without mom worrying. These little holiday moments made the session so playful and fun.

This was the first session where Clyde could sit up all by himself, which opened up a whole new world of poses and playful moments. He’s a total groover. Sitting upright, he’d throw his head back like a little rock star and laugh. And now that he’s started army crawling, nothing is safe when he wants it. Capturing all of this curiosity and energy is exactly why I love 6-month milestone sessions – they’re full of movement, personality, and tiny surprises.

There was a windowsill just wide enough for Clyde to sit in, decorated with a frosted Christmas scene the family had made the year before with friends. Clyde quickly figured out that if he danced on the windowsill, his body turned the glass into a little drum. He loved it at first until he bounced a little too hard and looked around like, “Who just hit me?” Watching him discover the world and react in real-time is one of my favorite parts of photographing babies.

While we waited for Dad and Aunt Em to arrive, Nan and Pops snuck into the other room, and Santa and Mrs. Claus made a surprise visit. They were perfect, and Clyde was smitten – especially seeing his Nan in bright red. He climbed right onto Santa’s lap and grabbed his beard before anyone could stop him. Santa had brought a little packet of Chip Ahoy cookies, which were Clyde’s very first cookie. He snatched it up, and for a few magical minutes, nothing else mattered but that little cookie.

As the sun started to lower, the light streaming through the windows became soft and golden. We lowered the blinds to keep the glow just right, and once the sun set, the Christmas tree was the only light. Clyde loved exploring the crumpled gift bag paper, tasting ornaments, and just taking it all in. These little candid moments are exactly what families want to remember, and they’re the ones that make heirloom albums so special.

Clyde at six months, full of curiosity and discovering the magic of his first holiday season, reminded everyone how fleeting these moments are. From candy canes to crumpled paper, his first cookie, and his groovy windowsill dance, every tiny detail tells a story. Holiday home sessions like this capture real, joyful, and playful memories that families will treasure forever.
